Unsere Materialien

You know, we like to experiment with new, innovative materials to offer you a sustainable and animal-friendly alternative to conventional products. But you have no idea whether we're just telling you fairy tales or what actually lies behind words like organic, Tyvek, or Texon. So here is a little informative article for everyone who wants to take a look behind the green facade.

First, let's talk about Tyvek®, after all, our name is derived from this miracle material and it marks the beginning of our story that we still want to tell our kids. Tyvek® is a tear- and waterproof plastic fiber that strongly resembles paper in appearance and feel. It is just as thin but as robust as leather. It can be printed on & sewn and partly consists of recycled plastic fibers. It is 100% recyclable.
In Tyvek®, the fibers are tangled and not aligned in one direction. This is why the material is really extremely durable. We have included a small card made of Tyvek® with the properties of each product in every item – feel free to try tearing it here! Fun fact: did you know that Tyvek® is used, for example, on construction sites or to secure avalanche slopes?

Next up is Coronet, an incredibly beautiful vegan leather. It consists of bio-polyols, i.e., plant-based materials. The main component is field corn, and 50% of the organic material comes from renewable sources. The material is produced with a low CO2 footprint (compared to leather) and is completely vegan. We use Coronet, for example, in our sneakers, waist bags, and backpacks.
We source Coronet from a small factory in Italy. This factory is fully dedicated to producing vegan materials. The production facilities are entirely powered by photovoltaic generators – this perfectly matches our idea of sustainable production.

Next stop: organic cotton. If only the word organic wasn’t there... during our research, we were very surprised to learn that conventional cotton accounts for about 25% of the worldwide insecticides used and about 10% of pesticides. Therefore, we decided on organic cotton, which is produced without chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides. This not only protects the environment but also the health of the farmers in our supply chain. We use organic cotton in our sneakers, in the YAS children's collection, as well as in our socks. The material is GOTS certified.

The material is an environmental all-rounder: it is elastic and fire- as well as water-resistant. So, what is it? Right, cork. Cork trees are found in the Mediterranean region; for example, we source cork from near our production site in Portugal. What ultimately convinced us was the sustainability aspect combined with the recyclability and high comfort.
Cork is also dirt- and sweat-resistant and can be cleaned very well. All this convinced us to use it in our first sneaker and our yoga mats.

And not to forget: Texon. The material is a latex-impregnated cellulose fleece, whose surface appearance and texture strongly resemble animal leather. Therefore, it is also called leather paper or vegan leather. It is biodegradable and vegan. We use Texon, for example, in our small bags made of Texon and our backpacks. It can also be printed on and impresses with a very high-quality look.
