...even though we were always against it.
When the idea for 4WA came up, it was clear to all of us: we don't want to be a brand that sets prices too high just to constantly throw out discount codes. We are not Banana Beauty, Hello Body, and the like. We want to stand for fairness and transparency.
Therefore, we wanted to set a price with which we can calculate realistically. A price that covers materials, manufacturing, shipping, storage, marketing, employee costs, rent. With which we don't make a fortune, but have enough income to reinvest the money into new products.
That's the idea. In theory, a really cool idea!
In practice, a sneaker is a complex product in terms of manufacturing and storage. A single sneaker splits into 12 sizes of one color for us. To make it worthwhile for our production in Portugal to even start the machines, we have certain minimum order quantities. And a longer lead time for delivery.
This means: we have to order enough before the sneaker season in spring and summer to get the goods on time.
In our warehouse we pay monthly per storage space. Remember: 1 sneaker = 12 products = about 2 kilos weight per pair = a huge, heavy storage space. Consequently, this means that our calculation worsens or even becomes negative if a product sits around too long.
Well, that's what happened with our CURL sneaker. And before the CURLS rot away in our warehouse and eventually have the value of a small car.. we'd rather sell them at a lower price.
Our shoes are made to make the streets unsafe with you and to make a sustainable statement for slow fashion. They are not meant to become old as display pieces in the warehouse.
